Welcome summer with a fun crab craft idea! We love making all kinds of bookmarks (as reading is awesome) but origami corner bookmarks are our favorite by far.
As the temperatures here are steadily rising and our though are already with all things summer, we though it is the best time to start making some ocean animal bookmakrs (we already have a shark corner bookmark on the website).
There are quite a few ocean dwellers that we will be sharing with you, as well as other fun designs (just scroll to the bottom of this page to get many more ideas and inspirations for your designs).
This craft idea is perfect to make at home, in the classroom (kindergarten and older kids will fold these easily, preschoolers will need more time and might require assistance), at book clubs and more.

How to Make Crab Corner Bookmarks
What you need to make this easy origami for kids and beginners
- red or orange origami paper (regular paper cut into square is just as effective) – 2 sheets (as you will be cutting out the decorations)
- scissors
- glue
- marker to draw the eyes
Optional: wiggle eye stickers

Or Follow These Step by Step Folding Instructions
Fold the origami paper in half diagonally. You should see a triangle.
Color side should be on the outside if you are using origami paper.
At the top of the triangle, grab hold of the top sheet of paper (at the top) and fold it towards the bottom.
You will see a white square form.
Now you need to fold the right and left corner of the triangle to the bottom centre of the triangle (the corner needs to touch the bottom middle – both corner will meet at the middle).
Unfold.
Now fol the same two corner to the top.
Tuck them into the pocket that has formed.
You have just made your origami corner bookmark! Now let’s turn it into a crab.
Turn regular ones to crab corner bookmarks
Cut two crab claws out of red paper and glue them on the back of the corner bookmark.
Also cut 8 little legs and glue them inside the corner bookmark.
Glue on or draw eyes and you are all done.
Well you can add mouth too or other facial details :).
