Mother’s day is a great holiday to get crafty for. Every mom deserves a nice keepsake or a card.
When it comes to kid made or homemade gifts in general we do love it when they are both personal and useful and keychains are just that. This lovely keychain will be in use for years to come.
How to Make Shrinky Dinks Flower Handprint Keychain
What you need:
- Shrinky Dinks Shrinkable Plastic
- floral color paints
- green paint
- yellow paint
- paintbrush
- hole puncher
- optional: clear sealer
We worked with acrylic paints, youger kids can also work with stamping ink.
Step by Step Tutorial
Paint the palm in floral color (we chose pink).
You can either have the kids press their hands in color or paint them with a paintbrush. Allow the paint some time to dry.
Paint stem and leaves with yellow paint. You can also use thumbs to paint this.
Dip the tip of the finger (thumbs work best) and press them in the middle of the handprint two times to form a heart shape.
Punch a hole on the top with a hole puncher.
Place in oven. Follow the “baking” instructions on the Shrinky Dinks Plastic.
When it becomes straight take it out of the oven and place it on a flat surface to cool.
To be super sure our will come out straight, we placed another layer of parchment paper on top of the keychain and placed a book on top of it when we took it out of the oven.
Seal with glossy varnish if necessary.
