Fall is the time for hedgehogs to shine! This little paper hedgehog craft is great for kids who already have good fine motor skills (most kindergarten-aged kids should be able to complete this project).
How to Make the Easy Folded Paper Hedgehog Craft
What you need:
- paper in various colors
- glue
- scissors
- marker
Step by Step Tutorial
Start by folding a sheet of brown paper, it can be a square one or rectangular one.
Make accordion folds across the whole length of the paper (for those versed in origami terminology, make valley and mountain folds).
Once you have a paper accordion, press it together and fold it in half. Glue the halves together making a paper fan.
Draw a hedgehog head shape and cut it out of the paper.
Draw in the details and add a googly eye (or draw the eye).
Let’s make a grassy scene! Cut a circle for the background (any other shape will do but circles really look cool). Cut out grass shape out of green paper or various shades of green paper and stick them on the circle.
Trim any excess paper.
Glue the hedgehog head on the background scene.
Apply glue (white school glue or glue gun is best) on the folded paper fan.
Press it down on the background, carefully aligning it with the head. Hold it in place for a little while for the glue to set.
Hedgehogs are often depicted carrying apples, other fruit, leaves, and flowers on their spikes – While this isn’t something they actually do, adding a flower (or an apple) on this hedgehog craft is a fun little addition.
All done! Your easy folded paper hedgehog craft is complete and ready for display.
This is a great project to do in the classroom as it will make a cool bulletin board display.
