How to Make the Handprint Tree Craft
What you need:
- pencil
- scissors
- glue
- newspaper, old utility bills or old damaged books
- cardstock (white and black)
- craft paints
- paintbrush
- sponge brush
- black marker
Step by Step Tutorial
Prepare a sheet of white paper. You can use regular print paper for this. Cardstock is fine as well.
This is where the tree’s canopy will be made.
Start by painting the sheet of paper green.
There are many ways your kids can go about adding something extra to the tree, be it realistic or abstract. You can make an apple tree, full of red and yellow apples.
A round sponge brush is perfect for the job.
If your kids prefer abstract art, have them add more colors.
Let them da away! They can also use their fingers to make this project even more personal.
Once they are happy with how their work of art look, set it aside for the paint to dry.
Once the paint has dried, cut out an oval or a circle shape.
Glue this tree top to the top of the black cardstock sheet (you can use any other color but we feel black gives a great contrast).
Grab a piece of newspaper and have kids trace one hand onto it with a pencil.
Trace or have them trace the pencil line with a black marker.
Cut out the hand shape to create the trunk of our tree.
Gue the newspaper hand shape to the bottom of the tree top.
Step back and admire the colorful handprint tree!
A perfect craft to make every year to watch the little hands grow.
A fun way for making recycled art as well.
