Follow our easy step by step tutorial on how to make an origami Christmas tree, and you and your kids will be making these little cute trees in no time.
This is a great origami for beginners as the steps are easy enough to follow, and the end result is beyond adorable. Make a bunch and use them as cute decorations. String them together to make a fun-looking Christmas garland, or you can use them to make the sweetest handmade cards. Just fold one and stick it on a blank card base. Easy peasy!
We added cute faces to ours; this little detail makes all the difference, but this is an optional step.

Origami is a fun technique that can be mastered by kids and adults alike, as there are many interesting paper crafts you can make, from super simple ones to more challenging one.
This Christmas tree craft is one of the easiest origami, so it can be used as an introduction to this technique.
While origami is all about folding and no cutting, we do feel adding a star, while technically not origami, makes this craft even more special.
How to Make the Origami Christmas Tree
What you need:
- scissors
- color paper (green)
- yellow or gold paper for the star
- markers (black, white, and pink)
Step by Step Tutorial
You can work with green origami paper or just use a square sheet of regular green paper.
Fold in half diagonally.
Unfold. Fold the edge towards the center (the diagonal fold).
Repeat with the other edge. The paper should resemble a kite by now.
Flip the paper face-down.
Bring the edges (top side of the tree) towards the center.
You need to align both edges to the center.
Run your fingers across the folds to make them sharp.
Bring the bottom to the top, folding them together to make a triangle.
Flip around (one side is “pure triangle” and the other side has flaps, the side with the flaps should be facing you).
Make a fold at about 1/3 of the tree (looking from the bottom of the triangle). Fold down.
Fold the bottom tip of the triangle up.
Make the folds crisp.
All done! You have folded the origami Christmas tree.
Making a Cute Christmas Origami Tree
Have kids use a black marker to draw eyes and mouth to the Christmas tree.
Have them use the white chalk marker to add a touch of sparkle to the eyes of the Christmas tree.
Now, have them use a pink marker to draw the cheeks.
Cut out a star shape out of yellow paper or similar (you can use our handy printable star outlines) and stick it on the top of the tree.
Or you can have kids draw a star on the back side of it and cut it out.
Glue the star to the tip of the tree.
We think it looks great!
Kids can make as many as they want using different colored paper.
Merry Christmas!
