Monsters are most fun around Halloween but as this is a fairly popular theme amongst kids, they can be used all year round.
There are many ways you can get creative with kids with this theme. Want to encourage kids to write a letter? Have them decorate their monster envelope. Want them to play more? Print out the mix and match monster cubes.
The monster paper craft tutorial we are sharing today is perfect for younger kids, as it’s a no prep activity (perfect for preschool or kindergarten) and doesn’t take long to make. It can combine coloring and art – as kids need to color the monster and if they feel creative, can design their own background to make this craft even fancier.
How to Make a Surprise Big Mouth Monster Printable
What you need:
- our printable template – you will find it at the bottom of this article
- coloring supplies – markers, pens, crayons or paints, whatever works best for you
- paper
Step by Step Instructions
Print out one of our templates (it comes in two sizes, so whatever one works for your crafting lesson).
You can print them on regular or heavier print paper (card stock), we do recommend the latter.
If your kids will be coloring with crayons or coloring pencils, the regular print paper, however if they will color with markers regular print paper will wrinkle and the colors will bleed through.
So this is something to keep in mind. Heavier print paper also makes this art and craft more durable.
Give the kids their favorite coloring supplies and let them color in the monster.
There really are no rules when it comes to coloring the monsters – they can use bright or dark colors, warm and cool, any combination they see fit.
Once the monster is colored in, why not have them design the background too. Be it a nice living room or a place out of this world (either another monster dimension or a unknown planet).
Once the kids are happy with how their monster is looking it’s time to get folding.
Start by making a fold along the upper lip line. Fold across the width of the paper.
Next pull the upper lip fold to meet the lower lip line – push the paper down to create another fold inside (it will create itself).
Crease well to make all folds nice and crisp and you are done.
Your monster is ready to have fun!
