Succulents are pretty awesome on their own, but you can make them even prettier by decorating their flower pot. And as far as succulent planter ideas goes, there isn’t a thing that would be more amazing than an unicorn right about now.
Just look at those adorable eyes! And the cheeks, flowers and well the whole package. And it’s pretty easy to make one of your own too.
How to Make a DIY Unicorn Planter
What you need:
- Mini Terracotta Pots/Planters (it’s really important for these to be terracotta planters, as paint won’t behave the same on other material)
- your favorite succulent plants along with soil
- acrylic paint (or other craft paints) – white and pink
- hot glue (strong craft glue works well too, but glue gun is recommended)
- scissors
- black permanent marker
- paint brush
- small paper of fabric flowers
- green cardstock or green felt
- gold glitter cardstock
Magical DIY Succulent Plant Pot Tutorial
Step 1
Start by painting the terracotta planters white. You will need to add a few coats of paint, this depends a little on the paint pigment (different brands will require more or less layers), on average 2-3 layers should be enough. Make sure the paint is completely dry before you continue.
Step 2
Let’s make the leaves. Draw a leaf shape on cardstock or felt and cut it out. You’ll need a few of these.
Step 3
Make the horn. Draw a triangle shape onto gold glitter cardstock and cut it out. Also prepare your flowery decorations.
Step 4
Glue the horn on the inside of the pot right towards the top.
Step 5
Time to decorate some more. Fist glue on some of the leaves. Add a bit of flowers too.
Step 6
Sketch the eyes with a pencil. When you are happy with how the eyes look like, trace over with black marker. You can draw the pink cheeks with your fingers, just dip them into pink paint and dab your finger on the terracotta pot.
Step 7
Fill the terracotta pot with soil and plant your succulents.
You’ve got yourself a wonderful little DIY Unicorn Planter.
