We are really happy to have a fun and personal project to share for Father’s day too – these handprint father’s day portraits will make a great canvas art project or a pretty unique kid made Father’s day card.
How to Make a Father’s Day Handprint Art
What you need:
- variety of paints – different skin tones, different hair colors and a selection of colors for clothes
- paint brush
- canvas or card
Optional to make a tie
- scissors
- glue
- card stock in various colors
- markers
Step by step tutorial
Prepare your paints and canvas or card.
We will start by making the handprint face. Paint the palm part in the desired skin colors. Paint the fingers with the desired hair color. You don’t have to color the thumb.
We do recommend the paints are a bit more on the wattery side for them to not dry to quickly.
Press the hand on the canvas or paper – on the upper half of the area with the fingers on top.
Was the hand thoroughly. While the hands are being washed, the paint on the canvas or card will dry.
Turn the canvas upside down.
Continue with painting the hand (same hand or different one). Paint the palm in the color of the shirt you want your handprint person have. Also paint the thumb and pinky finger in the same color, except for the tips.
Paint the tips in the color of the skin tone you used for the head.
Paint the other three fingers in pants colors.
Press the hand on the canvas to get the image as it’s show on the picture bellow.
If you want to add a fancy tie to your art, cut it out from construction paper.
Make it fancier by adding patterns.
Glue it on your handprint art.
Draw eyes, mouth and nose with a black marker.
You can also use wiggle eye stickers or googly eyes.
