How to Make the Flapping Ears Bunny Craft
What you need:
- printable template
- scissors
- glue
- coloring supplies (crayons, markers, or colored pencils)
Step by Step Tutorial
Print out the template. Regular print paper works out well for this one.
If you printed the black and white bunny craft template, have the kids color it in first.
Once the template parts are colored in, cut out the ears and the part with the body.
There are dashed lines above (and across) the bunny’s head. Make folds along those lines. Run your fingers (or a ruler) across the folds to make them crisp.
Make sure you fold along all of the dashed lines (the horizontal and diagonal ones).
Start by folding along the horizontal dashed line above the bunny’s head (with the template on the outside).
With the bunny head facing you, fold down the along the diagonal lines (bring the outer corner to the middle).
First one side and then the other. You should see a triangle shape now on top of the bunny’s head. Run your fingers across the folds.
Now unfold the diagonal folds, and fold them backward in the same manner. What we do with this is ensure the flexibility of this paper toy. It will make the ears flap smoother.
Unfold everything.
This part might seem tricky, but we promise it’s easy peasy.
We’re focusing on the horizontal dashed line that goes across the bunny’s head now. Fold along this line first.
Next, gently push in the “triangles”, as you already made all the folds beforehand, they should naturally pop into their place as you push them in.
This creates the mechanism for the flapping ears.
Run your fingers across the folds again. All of the folds are as they should be now.
We are ready to add the ears now.
Gently unfold the bunny. Glue the ears on the template. Allow for the glue to dry completely before you move the paper toy.
As you fold back the bunny, the ears will be standing straight.
Have kids pull the upper strip gently to make the bunny’s ears flap up and down.
How adorable is that?
Super fun to play with.
Don’t forget to share your bunny creations with friends and family.
Hoppy Easter!
