Welcome spring with this sweet paper plate sun and rainbow craft.
This is a fun classroom project to make as one paper plate makes two crafts and you can use scrap materials for everything else.

With this spring craft idea it’s all about the sunshine and the colorful rainbow and while you can certainly add some clouds to it (cotton balls under the sun would look really fun) we decided we’ll make a clear sky one.
This project is great for fine motor skills and cutting practice because of the sun rays and rainbow strips. If you are working with a younger audience, we do recommend you do the cutting beforehand and have the kids only do the gluing.
It’s also a great project that you can use to teach about the colors of the rainbow.
How to make a Paper Plate Sun and Rainbow Craft
What you need:
- paper plate
- yellow paint
- orange and yellow paper
- tissue paper in rainbow colors
- glue
- scissors
- marker
Step by Step Instructions
Start by painting the paper plate yellow.
When the paint dries, fold the paper plate in half.
Cut along the fold to get two half circles. You will need one half of the paper plate for this project.
If you want, you can draw a smiley face (or any other) on the paper plate half to give your craft some personality.
Cut little triangles out of orange and yellow paper.
Stick them on the back of the paper plate as shown on the image bellow.
Next comes the rainbow. Cut strips of tissue paper…
And stick them on the back of the paper plate.
All done! Your paper plate sun and rainbow craft is complete.
