What makes our printable disguise a turkey template really stand out is the “on and off” costume. Kids will be really excited about this, as they can quickly swap between a regular-looking turkey and a disguised one.
One moment a regular-looking turkey, and with a simple fold of a paper, a disguised turkey appears! How fun.,
One of the most important parts of the disguise a turkey project is the writing assignments that go along with it. Designing the costumes is pure fun, but an extra learning element makes all the difference. This is why we also added simple writing papers that can be added to this disguise a turkey craft. Perfect for making a wall or bulletin board display.
If you will be making this in the classroom, we also recommend you grab some of our turkey coloring pages or check out how to draw a turkey to have something at hand for students who complete their tasks early.
How to use the Turkey in Disguise Printable Templates
We are sharing a bunch with you as a free printable (you can grab them at the end of the tutorial). We also have many more designs available for our members as well as in our TpT store.
What you need:
- any of our templates (3 versions available; each can be done in different ways)
- paper – cardstock is great, regular print paper works as well
- coloring supplies
- scissors, glue
Version 1 – Step by Step Tutorial for Premade Characters
The first version includes the pre-made characters. Make a pirate turkey, football player, farmer, witch, or even an astronaut turkey disguise.
We’ll quickly show you how to make a football player turkey disguise. Print the sheet with the football player parts and color them in.
Cut them out.
Take the turkey template. You can have the kids color it whole (as a regular turkey) or have them place the parts on the template and see what needs coloring.
In the case of the football player, it’s enough to just color the tail.
Cut out the turkey and glue on the disguise. You can finish things here, or take them to the next level.
You will need the I am not a turkey “I am not a turkey, I am…” sheet.
Have the kids color it, this time we are aiming for a natural-looking turkey.
Fold along the dashed line.
Apply glue on the folded part, just around the area below the turkey’s belly.
Stick on the footballer (or any other turkey in disguise).
Pretty cool, right?
You can also glue a handy writing paper on the back of this craft like we did for our astronaut turkey in disguise.
I’m not a turkey, I’m an astronaut!
Version 2 – Step By Step Tutorial for the Mix and Match Printable
The next one is the mix-and-match printable. This one is perfect for making in the classroom or with larger groups as kids can swap different accessories as they make a disguise for their turkey.
There are a ton of possibilities; here are just a few characters your kids can make. Their characters can be completely random or they can make fun combinations such as scubba diver, clown, viking, Mrs. and Mr. turkey in disguise, ballerina, clown…
With a little bit of imagination, they can also use the mix and match printables and add their own drawings to create their favorite fictional characters (like this Harry Potter-inspired turkey in disguise)
Let kids color in the mix and match sheets.
Also, prepare a regular-looking turkey template. Have the kids color it and cut it out.
Now start decorating your disguise a turkey craft.
Kids can use random elements, or have an end result in mind. We are making a clown turkey. First, we added the wig.
Then the glasses with the big clown nose.
A fun hat and a colorful dress.
A pair of big shoes also. We also added a tie and a button to make this turkey clown look even cooler.
Version 3 – Design Your Own Turkey in Disguise Printable
While we think that our pre-made turkey in disguise printable templates are really fun, we love it when kids really get creative. This is why we also have a blank turkey template that really allows your kid’s creativity to shine.
Let the kids design the disguise from scratch. Disguising a turkey as a peacock is one of the simplest ideas your kids can make.
Color the design and cut out the turkey outline.
Now, let’s make this even more fun. Be sure to also print the template with the turkey with a small rectangle on top.
Have kids color it and cut it out.
Fold along the dashed line on the rectangle and apply glue.
Glue the disguised turkey on top of the regular one.
And that’s it! This printable template allows your kids to make any character they want.
What will your kids be making?
The sky is the limit! They can make doctors and nurses…
Knights, princesses and kings…
Explorers, rockstars…
Pretty dancers and even fairies…
Entertainers and all kinds of silly characters.
And bellowed fictional characters from their favorite bedtime stories.
The sky is the limit.
