Summer time is great to put the scissor skills at test and what better way than by making this colorful Paper Weaving Turtle Craft.
Paper weaving is popular with younger kids, and why wouldn’t it be – it’s easy peasy and the end result looks great!

Crafting ocean animals is a great summer craft project – great to do during a rainy day or something to make on summer camp.
Turtles are one of those animals (to craft) that really turn out great when you make the shell out of woven paper.
Just look at the colors of the shells here – and you can make them even more colorful.

How to make Paper Weaving Turtle Craft
What you need:
- our printable template
- construction paper in a couple of colors
- scissors
- glue
Step by Step Tutorial
Print out the template with the turtle body parts.
You can also print the paper strips template or just have the kids cut them on their own.
Cut out the turtle outline and the shell outline
If you printed the paper strips template, cut along the rectangle outline.
Place the rectangle on top of the two colored papers and cut around the outline again.
Cut paper strips (we made them purple and pink).
Start paper weaving. Glue two paper strips (different colors) together at a right angle.
Next, glue all of the paper strips in one color (in our case purple) to the paper strip of the other color (in our case pink) – one on top of the pink strip and the next one on bottom (and so on).
Next “weave” the other color in – going over and under the first color.
For this project, you don’t have to add glue as you go.
Take the shell part and apply glue across the whole surface (one side only).
Stick the woven paper on top of the shell shape. Press down for the glue to set.
Turn around and cut along the outline (add glue if necessary).
Apply glue on the shell.
Stick it on the turtle.
All done! You’ve made your Paper Weaving Turtle Craft.
