Valentine’s Day crafts are fun, but making Valentine’s Day cards is even better!
You can have the kids make a heart-shaped dog V-day card to go along with this one as well.
How to Make the I Woof You DIY Valentine’s Day Card
What you need:
- pencil
- scissors
- glue stick
- white and black cardstock
- color cardstock (we used light blue, brown, dark brown)
- black marker
Step by Step Tutorial
The Card
To make the card, use a letter (A4) sized paper: either the whole sheet for a large card (perfect for younger kids) or cut in half for a smaller card that will fit in an envelope.
Have kids fold it in half to create a card.
The Dog
You will need a sheet of brown paper (or other color) roughly the size of the card. Have kids draw a triangle on the paper.
The bottom part of the triangle can be as wide as the folded card (it’s OK if it is a little more narrow).
Cut out the triangle.
Make the Dog out of Triangle
Gently fold the upper part towards the center of the triangle.
Apply some glue and attach the folded part.
Apply some glue to the bottom part of the card and paste on the brown shape.
Alternatively, you can apply glue on the back of the dog’s body instead of applying the glue on the card.
The Ears
Have the kids fold dark brown cardstock (or any other color they choose) in half and draw an ear-like shape on it.
Cut out the shape – they will cut two ears simultaneously because the paper was folded.
Have the kids glue the ears on each side of the dog’s head.
The Eyes
To create the puppy’s face, have them cut out two white circles and glue them to the face.
Then, they draw two black dots for the eyes.
Instead of drawing the eyes, they can also use googly eye stickers or googly eyes.
The Snout
To create the puppy’s snout, have the kids cut out an oval shape from black cardstock and then glue it to the dog’s face (at the tip of the folded triangle).
The “I woof You” Speech Bubble
Draw a speech bubble on white paper and cut it out. Outline it with a black marker to get a more cartoony look, and glue it above the dog to the card.
It’s time for the punny message! Have kids write an “I woof you” note inside the speech bubble. They can write anything they like really, but we think this pun works out great!
The I Woof You DIY Valentine’s Day Card is finished!
Do you like how yours turned out?
Kids can make as many cards as they like!
