The process of making your very own Christmas card and giving or sending it to your loved ones is precious for a kid, and a memory they will cherish for years to come.
We love making Christmas crafts and cards, and I guess this snowman pop up card is a bit of both.
It is pretty simple to make, once you understand how to fold and cut the different parts, and I am sure, once your kids master this, they will come up with all kinds of different characters that can be made in a similar way.
How to Make a Snowman Pop Up Card
What you need:
- white construction paper
- colorful construction paper for card base (or you can buy the card bases)
- brown paper
- black paper
- orange marker or crayon
- black marker or crayon

Follow the Step by Step Tutorial
Take the base card (opened up / unfolded) an place it on top of the white construction paper and trace around it.
We make our base cards by cutting a sheet of letter sized / A4 sized paper in half and folding that half in half. Small and cute.
Trim it down a little, so that it’s a bit smaller than the colorful base.
Fold the white construction paper in half.
Crease well.
Also fold the colorful base paper in half. Set aside.
Take the folded white paper and cut two slits, from the folded side to the “open one” – to about a third.
Fold to one side, it does not matter where, what matters is to make a crisp fold.
Unfold, and push the part you cut inside the card (as shown on the image bellow).
Next, and I do recommend you watch the video part for this, you will have to cut two slits again, but only one one “page” of the card.
Fold as you did the first time, crease and unfold.
Push in the card, like with the first “step”. You are now slowly seeing the shape of your snowman pop up card.
If you are working with younger kids, the two “snowballs” will be enough, older kids can continue onto making the third one.
Time to Decorate
Once you have all the parts of your snowman ready, unfold the card flat and draw all the details, the black eyes, mouth and buttons and a orange carrot for the nose.
Cut two thin strips of brown paper and glue them as sticks for hands of your snowman.
And a hat to complete your pop up snowman card look.
Close the card and apply the glue on one side.
Stick it into the colored paper base.
Apply glue on the other side and close the card.
All done! Your snowman pop up card is finished.
